Poio combine two admirable and often rare things
On their top-picks-list, Common Sense has gathered 23 excellent tools that can help children with early reading, highlighting a variety of techniques that support every step of the learning process - because learning to read is different for each child, but equally important for everyone.
“Poio by Kahoot! Learn to Read does two admirable and often rare things in the world of early learning games: It lets kids control the pace and allows learning to be a byproduct of play. A lot of other early learning games can get bogged down in instructional detail, but Poio puts the focus squarely on fun and joy”.
Poio is described by the editors as a child-centered reading game focused on discovery and enjoyment, with a clever spin on phonetics and a playful introduction to reading.
They also recommend Poio as a good app to use for students who have previously struggled with learning letters, since Poio doesn’t get perceived as an obvious educational game by children themselves.
“(...) Learning is layered-in, and there's a lot of repetition and reinforcement of this learning in each level. Kids bump up against words and sounds constantly, allowing them to learn the building blocks of reading in different ways. The storybook is also a nice hook that get kids invested in continuing play while building words and sentences."
