Poio by Kahoot! awarded Best Learning Game 2019
VILDE RANDGAARD / NOVEMBER 28, 2019
We are incredibly proud to announce that Poio, the learn-to-read game by Kahoot!, has won GOLD for the Best Learning Game at the Learning Technology Awards 2019.
Learning Technologies Awards is an international scheme which has been celebrating outstanding learning technologies for 15 years, and it’s Europe’s leading showcase in this field. They receive hundreds of submissions each year, which makes us humbled and thankful to receive such an important recognition.
The awards ceremony was held in London, 27th of November, and here is what the judges say about Poio:
“Poio from Kahoot! is an outstandingly creative project that uses the full potential of digital games and storytelling to help children to learn to read through play and exploration. The effectiveness data, feedback and testimonials from parents and teachers are compelling evidence of the difference Poio is making. The judges were impressed by the attention to detail in the learner-centric design and the positive affirmation through gameplay, the progressive, adaptive difficulty, the multiplayer mode and the introduction of the physical book at the end. The project has robust impact data and the potential to scale further.”
The award for Best Learning Game seeks to recognise games that play a key role in the support of specific learning aims. The 45 judges, drawn from leading professionals in learning and development, have been looking for innovative uses of these techniques, as well as the extent to which they lead to greater engagement, enjoyment and motivation, and provide a more effective learning experience than more traditional approaches.
Some of the criteria set by the judges were to demonstrate evidence that:
The game displays innovation or originality that has been applied to positive effect.
The use of games has been effectively aligned with learning objectives and outcomes.
Games have contributed to learner engagement, enjoyment and motivation.
Games have successfully contributed to learning.
The reaction of learners to the approach has been positive.
Games have delivered value for money, particularly in comparison with alternative methods.
The use of games has made an impact in terms of individual and organisational performance.
Thank you all for supporting us and cheering for us. We would not have achieved this award without all the families, educators and experts from a number of different fields helping us.
Let’s continue to make learning awesome!
